Well, I'm currently on call (from home), after coming home from school. Yes. I did go back to school (aside from fellowship). I'm working my way through a Masters in Clinical Investigation, which will take 2 years. Two classes a night this semester. Ambitious? Nah. Just a glutton for punishment! Right now my pager isn't ringing, so I figured I'd put down some thoughts down--quirky to some, madness to others, funny sometimes, bizarre more often than not...but its a free world, delete at your own risk...
Well, mom left yesterday early morning. Gawd, we woke up at the ungodly hour of 5 am. Can you say PAINFUL???! But necessary, I guess-to get her on the plane to go to Detroit then to Nagoya, Japan then to Manila. Anyway, mom (yes, I'm talking about you again!) took a bit of a detour during this trip. She was supposed to go home about a week and a half ago, but decided to spend some gab time with her sister (Aunty Amy) in New York. Maybe my cats were getting to her. Anyway, I had to put her on a shuttle, as some of you know...because of work constraints. But she traveled wonderfully and made it in one piece. She apparnetly enjoyed NY...so much so that she ended up buying an extra suitcasewhile she was there. When I picked her up at the airport, I knew this piece of information. Then I picked her suitcase up to put in my trunk. (Dad, did I tell you??? Mom and I had my car cleaned---YUP CLEANED---not just rain washed but HAND cleaned!!!) Damn! The suitcase was full! Leave it to Auntie Cynthia (my dad's sister in law) and Auntie Amy (my mom's younger sister) to get my mom shopping!!! Anyway, I picked her up at the airport Saturday morning. And had her on the plane to Manila on Sunday morning. It felt kinda like the snooze on your alarm clock...
You know, your alarm rings at 6am. Your press the snooze, when you can actually locate it, get a 7-8 minute reprieve before the darn thing goes off again. Then you have to get up and face the world. Well, when mom left to go to NY it was kinda like that. Kinda prepping me for her eventual departure. She goes to NY but she's not really gone (talk to her practically everyday!) aka Snooze #1. She comes back for 1 day to Chicago. Lug her suitcase from my temporary parking lot a couple of blocks away, GO last minute shopping, eat out, (michelle gets carded for buying a bottle of her favorite Belgian beer), come back to try to repack what really belongs in three separate suitcases into 2 suitcases, eat more at a closeby Japanese restaurant, with mom bleary eyed and sleepy (refusing to imbibe in anything stronger than hot tea...worried that she may zonk out before finishing the ardouous task of packing...), continuing to pack, almost needing to sit on the suitcase to get them closed! Using major space bags to try to squish everything in...Snooze #2. Lulls you into comfort, nice to have mom back in my place.... Then BOOM. She's on a plane back to the Philippines (back to reality) Wake up to real life, once again...Sigh. I already miss her and I just talked to her a couple of hours ago!
Fast Forward: July 4th--forgot I drafted. this. Not sure what I wrote. Had a Gawd awful weekend call with about 8 hours sleep total from Friday to Monday. Sigh...First year of fellowship is done. On to the second year, which is apparently better. I'll let you guys know when it starts being that way...
Till later
